Save the date! The 31st Annual Peach State Star Gaze October 19th, 2025 through October 26th, 2025. Registration is open!
The purpose of the PSSG is to provide Astronomers with a star party for observing, socializing, and learning. All are welcome regardless of your experience. Please observe the following courtesies in order that the event will be an enjoyable experience for all who attend. The PSSG Committee is the final authority on all decisions on rules and guidelines.
The Entrance Gate to Deerlick will be closed at sunset and open at 9:00am. Driving on or near the observing field after sundown is prohibited with exceptions for emergencies. Please find a PSSG staff member if you experience an emergency that requires assistance in driving off the field after sunset. If you arrive after dark or plan to leave before sunrise, please park in the designated area with your headlights pointed away from the field. The gate automatically opens when approached from inside the DAV.
Observing is more enjoyable when your eyes are dark adapted. White light and bright light can destroy a person's dark adaptation in an instant. There will be no white light after dark on site. Please bring and use red flashlights. Please use the dimmest amount of light possible.
There are numerous power outlets around the main part of the field for use by all attendees. They are intended for computers, consumer electronics, and telescope equipment. There are also a number of power outlets on the posts of the pavilion which can be used for charging batteries, plugging in laptops, etc. Please refrain from using high-wattage devices (e.g. space heaters, toasters, toaster ovens, refrigerators, etc). If you need to use these types of devices, please consider an RV hook up.
Generators intrude on your neighbor's peace and enjoyment of the natural outdoors. We expect that attendees who need to use generators limit their usage as much as possible. If you require the use of a generator, you will be directed to camp in designated areas. Noisy generators, as determined by the PSSG Committee and a sound meter, will be shut down.
We love our pets as much as you love yours, but generally prefer you leave them at home. If you need to bring your pet, they must be properly restrained at all times. You are responsible for your pet and must clean up after them in a timely manner. If your pet is disruptive or destructive, you will be asked to leave. You are responsible to ensure your pet does not disturb others.
The area south of Grier field is a private area of land and home owners. If you wish to visit or tour the DAV land owners' area, please contact a homeowner/landowner for an invitation. The Deerlick Group will also be providing tours and providing information.
In the event of an emergency after sunset, notify your neighbors of your situation and contact PSSG staff for assistance in being guided off the field safely. PSSG staff will also notify attendees of an emergency situation requiring lights.
There is a walking trail on the outer perimeter of the DAV property. The trail on the east side follows the old Conestoga Wagon trail. Please feel free to walk the trail at your leisure. Note that there are no restrooms or trash receptacles on the trail. Plan to carry your trash with you until you return to your campsite.
